Aspen Community Theatre was founded in 1975 for the purpose of educating the valley in all aspects of the performing theatre, both from the standpoint of the audience and of the participants. Aspen Community Theatre is governed by a board of directors who oversee all aspects of business and production with no paid officers or staff.
Over the years we have offered classes in Shakespeare, dance, acting, voice, audition skills and technical arts. We produce an annual fall musical and, on occasion, a spring production. We strive to be involved within the valley schools through guest artists, instructors and reduced ticket prices; and, of course, production participation. We award an annual scholarship to a high school graduate who plans to continue involvement in the performing arts. Although we pay small honorariums to a few professionals and orchestra members, the cast and crew are all unpaid. We believe participation by thousands of locals over the years has met our goal of continued growth in providing educational enrichment of theatre arts and cultural awareness. We are very involved with other arts organizations and have a good working relationship regarding loans of costumes, props and set pieces. In the past, we have participated in the annual Colorado Community Theatre Coalition, an annual state-wide theatre competition and festival for community theater companies from all over the state. |
